BATTLE OF BOWLEGS CREEK
Don't miss the fun, the music, the sights, and the emotion of another era. The Battle of Bowlegs Creek took place nearly 150 years ago in Polk County - April 7, 1864.
Cattle were the bargaining chips and at the center of the skirmish when Fort Meade was the backdrop for brother to fight against brother.
Jan. 27-29, 2012 are the dates for the Battle of Bowlegs Creek. Friday will be Living History Day for families and students. Saturday and Sunday will also include the re-enactment itself as the Union forces fire on the Cow Army who supplied beef to the Confederates.
Tucked in the middle of the weekend is the Peace River Folk Festival celebrating Central Florida's heritage from 10 a.m - 9 p.m. ... stopping for the re-enactment.

Welcome to
Fort Meade
the lifestyle of a small town
Located in Central Florida, Fort Meade
is the kind of town that still
maintains
the character and charm
of living in
a place where everybody really does
know your name.
Spend a few minutes talking to the locals and you'll find that the personality
of Fort Meade draws you back to a simpler, friendly time…a time when families
and friends gathered together to enjoy barbeques at each other's homes.
Perhaps Fort Meade's old-fashioned hospitality has something to do with its
historic surroundings and its love and celebration of history. It has over
300 Historic Homes. This is a community that values where it came from and
is optimistic about where it's going. There's still plenty of room for growth
geographically speaking and, as is the attitude of the residents, there's
always room for one more.
